Cheetahs Are Not Pets with Dr Laurie Marker
'My first encounter with the Cheetah Conservation Fund was at the age of 20 when I was working as an intern for a conservation charity in Bristol, England. I was given the pretty epic task of writing a blog series on ‘conservation heroes’ which I very keenly volunteered for and poured my heart and soul into. During my research I encountered Dr Laurie Marker - the Founder of CCF. Her passion, devotion and extensive knowledge astounded me, as did the incredibly innovative ways that her organization works. She is very much a ‘think outside the box’ kind of conservationist, ensuring that every project the charity does not only benefits nature, but local people too.''Cut to 11 years later and as well as being a co-producer on this podcast and a various other roles to a lot of other conservation-focussed organisations, I am also the Digital Lead for the UK affiliate of CCF. I am in constant awe of the tireless work that Dr Marker does and it was a pleasure to join together an organization and a podcast that I’m so passionate about for today’s episode. I also invited CCF’s Illegal Wildlife Trade Lead Dr Shira Yashphe along, as this is a key focus for the organization currently and I wanted her to share her in-depth knowledge so that we can all better understand what’s going on with the cheetah trade. I hope you’re as inspired by these female scientists as I am.' - Hannah Mulvany, Earth to Humans Co-producerLearn more about CCF on their website.Follow CCF UK on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to learn more about cheetahs and the holistic conservation efforts of the organization.
