ETH 225: "In a Gentle Way, He Shakes the World" - Munir Virani's Mission to Conserve Vultures and Birds of Prey

Munir Virani is a world-renowned raptor biologist and the executive vice president of the Peregrine Fund. We talked with him about growing up in Nairobi, Kenya, his inspiration to begin studying birds of prey, and how he helped solve a continent-wide mystery about the source of a mass-poisoning event that wiped out more than 95% of India’s vulture population.Last week we featured a guest blog post written by Munir, in which he described the influence that his mentor, Simon Thomsett, had on his career. Munir concluded his article by referencing a Mahatma Gandhi quote, "In a gentle way, you can shake the world." Although Munir was not using this quote to describe his own work, but his mentor's, we couldn't think of a more fitting way to exemplify the trajectory of his career in community-based raptor conservation.  As we mention in the podcast, Munir is featured in the pilot episode of the new animated series, the Chronicles of the Curious, which is co-produced by the Wild Lens Collective. If you’re feeling inspired by Munir’s story, watch the video below to get a preview of the series, and join our crowdfunding campaign to help us bring Munir's story to life! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKaQobz_1_A
